Once Zig said: “You can have everything you want in life, If you’ll just help other people get, what they want in life.” And I think that’s a great quote and a great message for all areas of business in life. But it comes specific to the using LinkedIn.
When I first started using LinkedIn, I was overwhelmed like a lot of people with social media. There was Twitter or Facebook, YouTube blogging, everything was happening online and there’s still a lot of sites coming out. I started looking for instructions and tips on how to work with this arsenal of tools. But a good mentor and friend of mine suggested that I actually get on LinkedIn and focus my opportunities there. But you’ve got to really make it compelling, add advanced applications, tell people who you are, who you helped and how. You helped them and really just share your story throughout your entire profile so complete your profile.
Number two. Make sure to connect with everyone. Don’t just connect with your personal connections that you already know, but start branching out and reaching out to new people that you want to connect with: people in your industry, other leaders people in your local market. The more you connect with interesting people and people you don’t know, the more your opportunities are gonna expand and grow.
Number three. Make sure to endorse and recommend others. The best way to receive endorsements and recommendations is to give them first. So just start going through some of your close friends and colleagues and start endorsing them for the skills that they have and recommending them leave nice little messages on their profile. That are like testimonials, so other people can see. How good of a job they really do in business.
Number four. Make sure to create your own targeted LinkedIn group. I created a group called the Sports Industry Network and now has over a hundred thousand of the top sports executives from around the world. This allows me to have more influence in the sports industry. It allows me to send a message. Once a week to all 100000 plus members getting me more traffic, more leads and more sales for my sports company. So make sure to create your own special group.
And number five. Make sure to optimize your profile for search rankings. So just like you would make on Google if you want to optimize your website for keywords. You want to do the same thing on LinkedIn. People are searching every single day for experts, for thought leaders, for consultants, for freelancers to hire, to sell problems in their business. So, you want to make sure, you add specific keywords throughout your entire profile. Once you do that, you’ll start to see your profile and your name move up the rankings on LinkedIn.
